Between falling in love and loving there is a lot of difference.
When a person falls in love, he doesn’t do it on purpose: it happens.
But to love one has to sweat, suffer, laugh, stay awake, and give oneself.
Love does not happen.
Love is made.
(Francesco Roversi)
Falling in love is something that happens, often coming without warning, taking us by surprise and leaving us with a mixture of awe and wonder at its undeniable perfection.
But love is something else: love is built and realized day by day.
To love means to build the shared project of a WE through hard and constant four-handed work that implies a daily, never to be taken for granted choice of commitment and motivation that must be able to take into account the Other as he or she is: merits and flaws, resources and limitations, similarities and differences, lights and shadows.
Love is never perfect, just like human beings.
For where there is light there is also shadow, and that is what makes love wonderful: the authenticity and beauty of a feeling capable of facing the worst storms only to see the sunshine again brighter than ever, when nurtured by a deep, intimate, firm and true bond.
